Mrs. MacArthur, age 73, died October 7, 2009. She was born
September 25, 1936, in
Pentwater, to Lester B. and Vivan A. (Moreen) Marcellus. On
July 12, 1958, she married Hugh MacArthur in Scottville.
Mrs. MacArthur worked as a secretary for 35 years, last
working at Howmet Corp., retiring in 1998. She adored her
grandchildren, enjoyed sports and arts & crafts, and liked
taking nature walkes. She was preceded in death by her
parents and a sister, Betty.
FAMILY: Her husband, Hugh; 2 sons, Dion MacArthur of
Whitehall and Brent (Rashel) MacArthur of Onekama; 1
granddaughter, Cassandra MacArthur; 3 grandsons, Curt
(Gretchen) MacArthur, Cameron MacArthur and Jordan
MacArthur; a daughter-in-law, Carmella MacArthur of
Perth, Australia; a sister,
Lois (Mel) Takes of Ludington; a brother, Larry Lents of
Pentwater; "adopted" sons, Darren Frazier of WA and Al Bloom

died September 5, 2011. She was born April 3, 1953, in
Flint, to Tony and Joan (Howell) Machuk. She had worked for
AAA of Michigan in Flint and later for the Muskegon AAA
office. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and
Joan, a step-father, Frank Howell, and a step-mother, Pat
Machuk, and brothers, Tom Machuk and Bill Howell.
FAMILY: 1 son, Kevin Saunders; sisters, Mickey, Toni,
Sherry, Kellie, Karen and Libbie; brothers, Ron, Frank,
Allen, Tommy Jack.

Mrs. Arlene J. Manny of Whitehall (widow of Neil)
Arlene June Manny, died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Bush
Creek Manor in Whitehall, Mi., at the age of 86.
Born Arlene Feeley on August 21, 1923 in
Oak Park,
IL, to George and Eleanor Feeley of
Chicago,
she married Neil G. Manny on
September 14, 1946. While raising her family
in River Forest, IL, she was active in the local Infant
Welfare organization. She spent summers at
White Lake,
MI, enjoying her family and many friends at the
White
Lake Yacht Club and the
White
Lake Golf Club, moving permanently to
White
Lake in the early 1980s. She was an avid bridge
player and known never to pass up playing a few hands. She
is preceded in death by her husband Neil G. Manny and her
brother
Robert G. Feeley. She is survived by her three
children, Neil R. (Skip) (Joan) Manny, Carol Muriello (Dan)
and Robert Manny and by her three grandchildren, Shawn Manny
(Stephanie), Alyson Martinez, and Christopher Martinez. A
private graveside service will be held at a later date in
Chicago, her favorite city and where she always wanted to
return.

Daniel R. Markley, age 57, died January 27, 2011, in
Grand Rapids
after a long battle with cancer. He was born July 9, 1953,
in
Great Lakes,
IL, to Robert H. and Gloria M. (Kapella)
Markley. A graduate of Whitehall High School, Mr. Markley
was a tool & die maker and had worked for Viking Tool Co.
for 30 years. He loved fishing on
White Lake
with his dad and boys and sharing his sense of humor with
friends and family.
FAMILY: He is survived by 2 sons, Brian Markley of
San Francisco, CA
and Jeff (Kelly) Markley of Montague; 2 grandsons, Miles and
Leo Markley; his parents, Bob & Gloria Markley of Whitehall;
3 sisters, Cindi (Michael) Pollo of Muskegon, Janet Rice of
Whitehall, and Diana (Rick) Lewis of
Spokane, WA;
a brother, Mark Markley of Whitehall; and many nieces,
nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. C. Robert Martin of Montague
He served as President of the Board of Lake Harbor Methodist
Church and Claybanks Methodist Church.
Mr. C. Robert Martin, age 98, died June 30, 2011. He was
born February 26, 1913 in Muskegon , Michigan to E. Harvey
Martin and Rena (Thompson) Martin. He attended elementary
schools, Hile and Churchill in Norton Township . Mr. Martin
graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1931 and from
Ferris State Institute in 1933. He was employed by Muskegon
Heights Schools as maintenance supervisor for 38 years. On
June 17, 1939, he married the former Alma Ernst in Saline,
Michigan . He was an active member of the Muskegon Optimist
Club and led the annual Christmas tree sale. He also served
as President of the Muskegon County Museum and was active
with and a Past-President of the Jaycees. He retired to take
up farming and to build his own home. He grew Christmas
trees for many years and was an avid fisherman and golfer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother,
Harvey, and a sister, Bertha (Martin) Holcomb.
FAMILY: He is survived by his wife, Alma and sister, Helen,
age 101. His is also survived by 3 children, Marti (Martin)
Balgooyen RPT (Ric), of Muskegon , Charles R. Martin CPA
(Ruthanne), of Marco Island, FL, and Elaine A. Martin PHD,
of Tuscaloosa , AL . He is also survived by 5
grandchildren, Chris Martin of Cleveland, Julie Fisher
(David) of Chicago, Jason Balgooyen (Susan) of Dallas, Kevin
Martin of Columbus, and Betsy Keller ( Kent ) of Chicago .
He is also survived by 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Donald L. Mason of Whitehall
Donald L. Mason, age 79, died June 28, 2010, in England,
while vacationing. He was born July 4, 1930, in Hart, to
Loren and Dorothy M. (Snow) Mason. He met the former Jean M.
Drinkall, in England, while serving in the US Air Force
during the Korean Conflict, and married her in Whitehall on
December 10, 1955. He worked
in maintenance at Hooker Chemical Co. for 32
years before retiring. Mr. Mason had interests in hunting,
camping, stained glassmaking, snowmobiling, woodworking and
was a Civil War history buff.
He was a long-time communicant member of
Faith Lutheran Church and
was preceded in death by two sons, Mark Mason and Kevin
Mason.
FAMILY: His wife, Jean; 1 son, Gary (Kim) Mason; 1 daughter,
Julia (Rich) Maziasz; 9 grandchildren; 6
great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Eilers and Joanne
Dyer; 1 brother, Milton "Bud" Mason.

Mary Jane D. May, age 81, of Whitehall, formerly of Livonia,
died Wednesday, November 25,
2009. She was born December 19,
1927, in Ontario, Canada, to
Honoruis and Ida (Desjarais)
Garneau. She was married to Raymond J. May, February
4, 1956, in Ontario, and he
preceded her in death. She had worked for the Canteen Co. at
Ford Motor Company, retiring
in 1988. Mrs. May had been a member of
St. Edith Catholic Church in
Livonia and more recently, was a member of
St. James Catholic Church in
Montague. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gabrielle
May.
FAMILY: 3 daughters, Monica & Tim Terry, and their children,
Leigh, Scott & Laura, of Grand Haven, Marlene & Mark Rainko,
and their son, Mark, of Clinton
Township, and Melanie & Darrel Copley, and their

He was loved by many close friends
and hated by a few but in his own words "I am a redneck
asshole and proud of it!"
Nicholas J. McCabe, age 29, died Saturday, March 27, 2010.
He was born April 26, 1980, to Dana and Maureen (Henagin)
McCabe. A graduate of Whitehall High School, he had worked
for Fred Summerfield Painting & Drywalling for many years.
He had started working last year at New Era Canning Co. and
was laid off for the winter.
FAMILY: 1 daughter, Sydney McCabe; his mother, Maureen
(David) Freeman; his father, Dana McCabe; grandparents,
Leonard & Nora Henagin and Earl & Rosemary McCabe; many
aunts, uncles and cousins.
Nick was preceded in death by his stepfather Bob Petty.

Mrs. Ruth G. Mcclellan of Rothbury
Ruth G. McClellan, age 75, died October 26, 2011. She was
born May 8, 1936, in Muskegon, to Gustave and Pauline (Miel)
Johnson. In 1957, she married Ferdell McClellan, who
preceded her in death in 1975. Mrs. McClellan had worked at
a number of local canning factories as well as being a
homemaker. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Karl and
Micheal, a granddaughter, Crystal, and 3 brothers, Melvin
Johnson, Harvey Carson and Leo Johnson.

Mr. William J. McGoran of Montague
William J. McGoran, age 86, died
September 13, 2010. He was born August 26, 1924, in
Brunswick, to Joseph and
Beulah (Brink) McGoran. A graduate of Montague High School,
after proudly serving his country in the US Army, in the
101st Airborne Division, in
Europe, during
World War II, he returned
home and married the former Betty Kroll in Montague, on
October 17, 1947. She
preceded him in death in 2004. After serving his
apprenticeship with Local 319, he became a lather working
for Local 1028-L, as well as working for Carpenter's Local
1045 until retiring in 1986. Mr. McGoran was a Life member
of the VFW, a Past-Commander of Don Rea VFW Post #8846 and
currently a member of White Lake
VFW Post #3256, a member of the
United Brotherhood of Carpenters
and was a member of the Buckhorn Lodge. He was preceded in
death by 2 brothers, Michael McGoran and Ted Lanning, and
many dear friends.

(Joe) Kelly of AZ and Marilyn (James) Benovic of Montague;

Wilma I. Mears, age 84, went Home to be with the Lord on
October 13, 2011, with family at her side. She was born
August 1, 1927, in Yorkville, Ohio, to Edward and Katheryn
(Kiss) Briggs. A homemaker all her life, on April 4, 1945,
she married James F. Mears, who preceded her in death. Mrs.
Mears was also preceded in death by a son, John Mears Sr.,
and 3 brothers.

Robert H. Medema, age 80, died April 18, 2011. He was born
April 4, 1931, in Muskegon, to Jake and Henrietta (Doorenbos)
Medema. He had worked as a truck driver for TNT Holland
until retiring. On May 31, 1958, he married the former
Sydney May, who preceded him in death in 1992. Mr. Medema
proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He
was a member of White Lake VFW Post #3256, White Lake Lodge
#198 F & AM and White Lake Eagles Aerie #3214. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Poel, and two
brothers, Fred Medema and John Medema.

Lake
Cecilia J. Meyer, age 92, died December 12, 2011. She was
born September 12, 1919, in Muskegon, to Oliver and Minnie
(Jenson) Jaunese. In 1964, she married Arthur Meyer, who
preceded her in death. Cecilia owned and operated Wayside
Inn Bar & Grill in Montague for 37 years, retiring in 1987.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Liskey, 3 sisters
and 2 brothers.

Donald E. Michaelsen, age 60, passed away unexpectedly on
October 17, 2011. He was born August 5, 1951 to Arthur
"Mike" and Donna (Erickson) Michaelsen. He graduated from
Whitehall High School in 1969. He worked as a Process
Engineer at Consolidated Precision Products in California.
He was a devoted son, brother and father. Don was preceded
in death by his grandparents, Donald & Dorothy Erickson, and
two uncles.
FAMILY: His children, Christopher (Danyelle) Michaelsen,
Starr Michaelsen (Mike Tremore), Max Michaelsen and Fritz
Michaelsen; grandchildren, Maggie, Mason, Amelia and Olive;

Mrs. Donna Faye Mikkelson R.N. of Whitehall
Donna Faye Mikkelson, age 74, went to be Home with her Lord
and Savior on December 30, 2010. She was born March 17,
1936, in Snover, Michigan, to Vivian E. and Isla M. (Moore)
Dorman. A graduate of Hackley School of Nursing, she had
worked as a Registered Nurse and retired as Director of
Nursing from Oceana County Medical Care Facility in 1996.
She was married to Robert J. "Spin" Mikkelson on August 15,
1964, in Hart, and was a cherished Wife, Mom and Grandma.
Donna Faye was a member of Montague United Methodist Church.
She was loved by many and she loved her Lord and family.
Family gatherings were always a time of bonding for the
large gatherings of her children, grandchildren, siblings,
aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.
Donna Faye enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing, knitting,
crocheting, making clothes for her grandkids, dining out and
being technological.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Kaye
Rinn, and a brother, Tom Dorman.

Roger A. "Ticker" Mikkelson, age 61, died
January 19, 2010. He
was born on July 25, 1948, in Shelby, to Melvin and
Emily (Omness) Mikkelson. A graduate of Montague
High School, he had
worked at Howmet Corp. for 40 years, retiring
in 2005. Roger was a member of

Mr. David W. Miller of Rothbury
David W. Miller, age 61, died April 18, 2011. He was born
November 10, 1949, in Bridgeport, CT, to Wilfred A. and
Dorothy (Tolles) Miller. On April 7, 1978, he married the
former Phyllis Harrison in Holland. Mr. Miller worked as an
electrical engineer for Teledyne Continental/General
Dynamics Land Systems for 37 years. He was a member of White
Lake Baptist Church and Muskegon Area Amateur Radio Council
(W8ZHO). He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth
Miller.
FAMILY: His wife, Phyllis; 3 sons, Stephen Miller of MD,
Timothy Miller of Rothbury and Michael (Megan) Miller, and
their daughter, Elizabeth, of IL; a sister, Marjorie Miller

Mrs. Edna M. Miller of Whitehall
Edna M. Miller, age 94, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011. She was
born October 28, 1916, in North Muskegon, to Harrison and J.
Maud (Wilson) Olson. In 1941, she married
John Miller, who preceded
her in death in 1988. She had worked at Pitkin Drug Store in
Whitehall for a number of years. Mrs. Miller was a
communicant member of Lebanon
Lutheran Church, had been a
Sunday School teacher for a number of years, and had
been a member of Northside Seniors. She was preceded in
death by a son, Norman Miller, a grandson, a granddaughter,
2 sisters, Irene Case and Gladys Franklin, and a brother,
Harold Olson.
FAMILY: 3 daughters, E. Irene (John) Parks, Mary Carlson
(Terry Beekman) and Ann (Mark) Brooks, all of North
Muskegon; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a
daughter-in-law, Pam Miller of Twin Lake.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Will be held later at Lebanon Lutheran
Church, 1101 S. Mears Ave., Whitehall, with the Rev. Douglas
M. Ogden officiating, with the time and date published at
that time. Interment was made in Laketon Township-Bear Lake

Mrs. Eleanor F. Mindham (widow of Charlie) of
Montague
Eleanor F. Mindham, age 90, left us to join her husband of
66 years, Charles F. "Charlie", on October 17, 2011, at her
home. She was born September 30, 1923, in Niagara Falls, New
York, to Albert and May (Morris) Homewood. She was married
to Charles F. "Charlie" Mindham, who preceded her in death
in 2008. Eleanor had worked as a para-professional for
Community Mental Health Services for 11 years. She was
preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Mindham, a
granddaughter, Tracey Mindham, a daughter-in-law, Marilyn
Mindham, and a sister, Mary McPherson. The Mindham family
would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Levasseur
and staff, Todd Pharmacy, Heartland Hospice, especially
Bonnie and Sarah for their care, the neighbors for all their
loving care over the years and a special thanks to Lois
Larson and Lois Hickman for their love and friendship.

Mr. Walter R. Misze, age 84, died Saturday,

Mary Miszewski. In 1983, he married the former Mary Ann
Wisniewski. Mr. Misze was retired owner & operator of Misze
Sand Mine in Fruitland
Township and was a member of
St. Mary of the Woods
Catholic Church. Besides his
parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 4
brothers.

Nettie Moehlman, age 90, died November 1, 2011. She was born
June 9, 1921, in Pentwater, to Anton and Ruby (Rosner) Van
Bavel. She was married in 1957 to Harold Moehlman, who
preceded her in death. Nettie was homemaker all her life and
a dedicated member of Fruitland Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Howell, in 2005.

Mr. Mears, age 62, died October 3, 2009. He was born

1947,
Martins Ferry, Ohio,
to James and Wilma (Briggs) Mears. On
November 18,
1966, he married the former Phyllis Muckey. Always
interested in electronics, he had worked at Hi Lite
International until retiring in 2008. Proudly serving in the
US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, Mr. Mears was a member
of
White Lake VFW Post #3256
and had been a lifelong amateur radio afficionado and
operator (Ham), call sign WA8NQO.

Gerald Lee Moore, of Battle Creek, died July 3, 2010. He was
born July 2, 1947, to James and Marian Moore in Portage, PA.
He was a Vietnam veteran where he served in the US Navy.
After the service, he attended Kent State University where
he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Kate Moore of Florida,
his mother, Marian Moore of Whitehall, a sister, Nancy
Peterson of Montague, and a brother, James (Cathy) Moore of
South Carolina, plus many nieces & nephews, and his former
wife, Liddy Cuellar of Florida. He was preceded in death by
a sister, Judy Zaman, his father, James Moore, and a niece,
Debbie Peterson.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Thursday, August 19, 2010, at Lebanon
Lutheran Church, 1101 S. Mears Ave., Whitehall, with the

Mrs. Evelyn E. Morningstar of Whitehall
On June 8, 2010, at Christian Care Nursing Center in
Muskegon, Evelyn Elaine Morningstar went to Heaven
surrounded by her family. She was born January 25, 1931, in
Wayland, to Clarence F. Sr. and Vera M. (Taylor) Johnson.
She had lived most of her life in Whitehall and Dalton
areas.
Evelyn was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Dalton and
had been a teacher and helper for Awana Pee Wees. Her
witness for Christ was well-known in the community. She also
had rental property that she called her "Mission Field".
Mrs. Morningstar loved her flower gardens, children, good
movies, her birds, her church family and family dinners. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Morningstar
Jr., daughter, Ilene, 2 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild,
her parents, several sisters and 2 brother-in-laws.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Russel (Nan) Schneider
of Whitehall, Franklin Morningstar of Muskegon, Kristina
(David) Jibson of Whitehall, Anson L. Morningstar of FL and
Lonny J. Morningstar of Grand Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 25

Kathleen "Kathy" Morris died on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, in
Muskegon, at the age of 61. Kathy was born on February 17,
1950, in Manhattan, New York, to Raymond and Marie (Fruehan)
Long. On May 8, 1982, in Whitehall, she married William
Morris. A dedicated wife and mother, she lovingly raised her
children and was a support to the love of her life, husband,
Bill. Kathy was a Communicant member of and active at St.
James Catholic Church in Montague, and was a Life member of
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Alpha Theta Master Chapter. She was
preceded in death by her father, Raymond.

Mr. Leon M. "Lee" Moss of Twin Lake
Lee Moss, age 73, died September 26,
2010. He was born to Fred and Thelma (Roup) Moss on
January 29, 1937, in
Grand Rapids. A graduate of
Michigan State University
with a Master's Degree, he worked in social work for 49
years, retiring in 2002 from the Muskegon County Department
of Community Mental Health.
On September 9, 1994, he
married the former Sheryl Urban.
In his spare time, Lee enjoyed gardening and was an avid
reader. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs.
Mr.
Moss proudly served his country in the US Army. He was
preceded in death by a sister, Mary Moss, and a brother, Don
Moss.

Charles A. "Charlie" Moulds, age 59, died Tuesday, April 5,
2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was
born May 31, 1951, in Muskegon, to John W. and Jacqueline (Esklidsen)
Moulds. A graduate of
Muskegon High School, and a long-time Muskegon
resident, he worked in maintenance at Howmet Corp. for 40
years, retiring in 2009. Charlie was a member of UAW Local
1243 and a member of Benona Shores Golf Course. He had a
love of hunting, fishing, golf, and bowling, enjoyed
watching his grandchildren play and was an avid Detroit
Tigers fan. Charlie was preceded in death by his
beloved grandson, Caleb Genson.

and for nursing homes for over 25 years. Mrs. Mura was

Bob always had a special place in his heart for his eight
grandchildren. He loved old cars, to cook, to fish and spend
winters in Florida. He had a
wonderful contagious sense of humor and loved to tell jokes.
Mr. Myers proudly served in the
United States Air Force.

SGT. Michael A. Nafe of Muskegon
SGT. Michael A. Nafe, age 29, died August 27, 2011. He was
born on June 7, 1982, in Muskegon, to John Nafe and Margaret
(Doran) Nafe. SGT. Nafe was making a career of the military,
proudly serving his country as a Scout in Bravo Troop of the
126th Cavalry of the Michigan National Guard. Already
serving a tour in Iraq in 2008/2009, he was set to deploy to
Afghanistan in October. He was a member of VFW Post 3195 in
Muskegon and was preceded in death by his grandfather, John
Nafe.
FAMILY: His mother, Margaret (Michael) Everling; his father,
John (Shirley) Nafe; 2 brothers, SSgt. David (Chrissy) Nafe
and Ryan Felan; grandparents, Betty Nafe and Kenneth & Anne
Doran; a niece, Chloe; aunts, uncles & cousins; his

Mr. Harold A. Nelson of Montague
Harold A. Nelson, 88, of White River Township, Montague,
passed away Friday, December 17, 2010, after a brief
illness. A lifelong White River Township resident, he was
born July 7, 1922, to Arvid and Nellie (Erickson) Nelson. He
attended the Pershing School and Montague High. A World War
II veteran serving in the US Navy, he was a Life member of
White Lake VFW Post #3256.
Mr. Nelson was an avid hunter and enjoyed his many years of
going to his cabin that he built in the U. P. He enjoyed
camping and travel ling and many winters spent in Texas. He
also was an avid NASCAR fan. He was employed at DuPont for
29 years, retiring in 1984.
On May 1, 1948, he married Matilda J. "Tillie" Machovsky at
Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Rothbury. He
was a communicant member of St. James Catholic Church in
Montague, where he served on the cemetery board for many
years.
He is survived by is wife of 62 years, Tillie; his children,
Jane (Rick) Fekken, Arved (Marta) Nelson and Delores "Dee"
DeMorrow, all of White River Township. Also surviving are
his eight grandchildren, Erich (Melanie) Fekken, Natalie
(Dan) Roesler, Stacie Nelson, Nick DeMorrow, Deanna Nelson,
Holly (Cam) Personette, Jeff (Amy) Nelson and Melissa
DeMorrow; his three great-grandchildren, Tehya, Karissa and
MariKathleen. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie,
a granddaughter, Jennifer and a sister, Marie Hague.
A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held at 11:00 AM on
Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at St. James Catholic Church,
5179 Dowling St., Montague, with the Rev. Fr. Donn P. Tufts
presiding. Interment will be made in Mt. Calvary
Cemetery-Montague. A MILITARY SALUTE will be conducted, at
the church, by White Lake VFW Post #3256.
VISITATION will be held at St. James Catholic Church on
Tuesday, December 21, 2010, from 5-8 PM, with a VIGIL
SERVICE held at 7 PM at the church, and one hour prior to

Mr. Roger A. Nelson of North Muskegon
Mr. Nelson, age 84, died May 5, 2010. He was born November
22, 1925, in Montague, to Allen and Hilda (Peterson) Nelson.
Mr. Nelson worked at Teledyne Continental Motors for over 40
years, retiring in 1994 as a Quality Inspector. He proudly
served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. On
November 2, 1963, he married the former Jacqueline K.
Larson. Mr. Nelson had attended both Lebanon Lutheran Church
in Whitehall and First Lutheran Church in North Muskegon. He
was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Bates.
FAMILY: His wife, Jacqueline; a daughter, Marianne (Stephen)
Custer of OH; 2 sons, Jamey Nelson, and his children, Eric &
Emma, of Muskegon and Brian Nelson of PA.

Ronald G. Nelson, age 67, died August 5, 2011. He was born
June 28, 1944, in Flint, to Kenneth and Katherine (Hurley)
Nelson. Proudly serving in the US Navy during the
Vietnam
Conflict, on June 25, 1966, he married the former Alice
Konicki in Livonia. A member of Montague United Methodist
Church, he worked as a pressman at the
Muskegon
Chronicle newspaper until retiring. He was preceded in death
by a brother, Richard Nelson.

Mrs. Violet F. Nelson of Whitehall
Violet died peacefully in her sleep at the home of her son
and daughter-in-law in Columbus, Ohio, on
February
16, 2010. She was born 85 years ago on April
12, 1924, in London, England, to
Charles and Rose
Lorraine. During
World War II, she met the love of her life,
Intelligence Officer Warren D. Nelson, and they were married
on July 7, 1945, in
London. As a
courageous war bride, Violet said goodbye to her parents and
11 siblings (including a twin brother) and journeyed to
America to join her husband on March 22, 1946, making
Whitehall her beloved home town.
Violet deeply loved her family and her friends, her home and
her church, the
Evangelical
Covenant Church of Whitehall. She enjoyed
working in many capacities in her community, always in the
area of hospitality. She had
fond memories
of her years working in area restaurants, Whitehall Schools,
and most recently, Del Foods and Plumb's.
She will forever be remembered for her endearing British
ways, her fun sense of humor, her warm hospitality centered
around her delicious meals, her untiring work ethic and her
God-given gift of helpfulness. She was a consummate
care-giver to her husband, Warren, who died on
October
13, 1985, and her mother-in-law, Edna Nelson,
who passed away at 101 years of age, on
November
9, 1997. She was preceded in death by her
parents, 7 brothers and 4 sisters, all of England. Vi's
family holds many fond memories of their visits to and from
her British siblings.
Violet will lovingly be remembered by her children, Lorraine
(Robert) Goryl of North Muskegon, Bruce (Joanne) Nelson of
Columbus, Ohio, and Delores (Mitchell) Hain of Sarasota,
Florida, as well as 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.

Mrs. Omness, age 83, died July 10, 2009. She was born

Willard H. Omness, who preceded her in death in 2003. Mrs.
Omness worked at Howmet Corp. for 33 years, retiring in

Mrs. Osborne, age 82, died May 20, 2010. She was born June
4, 1927, in Muskegon, to Roy and Hulda (Bose) Stout and had
lived in Claybanks Township all her married life. As a
child, Lena made a decision for Christ at Dalton
Baptist Church in North
Muskegon, and is joyfully home with Our Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ. She worked for Weesies
Brothers, and later,
graduated Valedictorian
from Muskegon Community College
School of Nursing and worked as an LPN at
Mercy Hospital, retiring in
1992. On November 28, 1947,
in Muskegon, she married Stanley Osborne, who preceded her
in death in 2001. Mrs. Osborne was a member of Claybanks
United Methodist Church, active
with Methodist Church Women and was a member of
White Lake VFW Post #3256 Auxiliary.
Lena donated to many causes. She was preceded in death by a
brother, Richard Hunt.

had worked as a

for 32 years, retiring in 1998. An avid bicyclist, she was a

for many years, and had actively participated in the annual
Shoreline Bicycle Tour West, where she served as Tour

Moody Bible Institute in
Chicago , IL . She married
Donald E. Peterson at Dalton
Baptist Church on September 28, 1946. Edythe enjoyed
cooking and baking for her family and tending her vegetable
and flower gardens. She was active in
teaching Sunday School classes
at both Fruitland and Whitehall Covenant Churches as well as
Dalton Baptist Church . She also participated in the
ministry of Child Evangelism
Fellowship of Muskegon County. Edythe was preceded in
death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Raymond, Robert
and Russell Halgren.

Mr. Tad Peterson, age 63, died August 26, 2010. He was born
September 23, 1946, in

of New Mexico. He had taught school, primarily
Spanish, in the Chicago area for a number of years. A member
of St. James Lutheran Church
in Montague, he proudly served in the
US Marine Corps during the
Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of
Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his father and a
brother, Rodney Peterson.

Mr. Robert L. Peterson of Montague
Robert L. Peterson, age 88, died
September 29, 2010.
He was born
November 22, 1921,
in Muskegon, to Arthur and Laura (Zarn) Peterson. On October
27, 1953, in Muskegon, he was married to the former Dorothy
Jeffery, who preceded him in death in 2008. Mr. Peterson
proudly served in the US Navy, Seabees, attaining the rank
of BM2, during
World War II,
seeing action in Europe and in the Pacific. He served in
Iceland, survived buzz bombing in
England, took part
in the Normandy invasion via a LST and helped ferry German
POWs back to the US on the USS West Point. He then
transferred to the Pacific, making his way to the Carolina
Islands, the
Phillipines and
Okinawa. Medals and ribbons earned included US Forces in
England, French Jubilee in
WWII,
Pacific-American Campaign, European Campaign with
Bronze
Star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign with Bronze
Star, Phillipine Independence, Pacific Victory 1945,
Combat
Action Ribbon and
Ruptured Duck.
Mr. Peterson operated Pete's Shell Station in Muskegon and
Whitehall for 20 years, operated Gamble's stores in
Kingsley, drove school bus for Whitehall and Montague
schools and had been a groundskeeper at White Lake Golf
Club. He was a Life member of
White Lake VFW Post #3256
and a member of Algot Johnson VFW Post #69.
He was preceded in death by a son, Tony, and 2 sisters,
Evelyn and Lois.

Mr. Thomas J. Pfeiffer of Twin Lake
Mr. Pfeiffer, age 75, passed away December 25, 2010. He was
born June 19, 1935, in Cedar Creek Township, to Paul and
Jessie (Mason) Pfeiffer. He married the former Mona Burkett,
who preceded him in death in 2006. Mr. Pfeiffer worked for
Bennett Pump for 42 years, retiring in 1997. He was preceded
in death by 2 sisters and three brothers.

Beth E. Pflaum, age 83, died August 9, 2010. Born November
16, 1926, in
Northfield,
Minnesota, to Jacob and Anna (Thompson) Dale.
She was married to Dr. Bryron C. Pflaum D.O. , who preceded
her in death. She had lived in the area for many years. She
was a Past President of The
Women's American
Osteopathic Association of Michigan
Auxiliary. Mrs. Pflaum enjoyed playing bridge, was an avid
reader and with a love a travel, especially enjoyed her
trips to Las Vegas.
Mrs. Pflaum was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Bradford
Pflaum D. O., a grandson, Nicholas Pflaum, and 4 brothers
and 1 sister.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and her family
includes her children, Dr. Byron C. II "Buzz" (Sue) Pflaum
D. O. of
Franklin, MI, Borghild (Dennis) Dilley
of Kentwood and Barbara Pflaum of Muskegon; grandchildren,

Peter E. Picard, age 52, died May 19, 2010. He was born June
4, 1957, in Shelby, to Robert J. and Bertha M. (Puffer)
Picard. Mr. Picard was a proud member of the Ottawa Indian
nation, had worked as a roofer for a number of years and had
been attending St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was
preceded in death by his father, Robert, and a brother,
Kenneth Sharlow.

Mr. Laverne L. "Vern" Pierce of Twin Lake
LaVerne L. "Vern" Pierce, age 57, died December 1, 2010, at
his home. He was born September 26, 1953, in Muskegon, to
Willie and Vivian (Sheneman) Pierce. On March 24, 1970, he
married the former Betty Jo Scott. Proudly serving in the US
Army during the Vietnam Conflict, Mr. Pierce was a
self-employed contractor for many years until retiring. He
loved the outdoors and had been an avid hunter and
fisherman. Vern was preceded in death by a brother, Gary
Pierce, and 2 sisters, Theresa Black, and Jacqueline Pierce.
FAMILY: His wife, Betty; 1 son, Mitchell Pierce; 1 daughter,

(widow of Robert)
Mrs. Potter age 81, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at home,
surrounded by her family. She was born March 29, 1928, in
Muskegon, to Albert and Clara (Wolffis) Vriesman. On
November 29, 1957, she
married Robert W. Potter. A homemaker all her life, Jean and
husband, Robert, owned and operated the Bonne Vista Resort
on White Lake and Potter's
Putter Miniature Golf course,
until his passing in 1998. Jean continued to live at Bonne
Vista where she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with
her family. Mrs. Potter had been a member of VFW Post #8846
Auxiliary and later was a member of the Algot Johnson
American Legion Post #69 Auxiliary. She was preceded in
death by two sons, Rolland Van Hemert, and Alvin Van Hemert,
a grandson, Rolland Van Hemert Jr., and a brother, Gordon
Vriesman.

Roy A. Price, age 79, died January 3, 2012. He was the son
of Zada and Pauline (Gonyon) Price and had retired from
DuPont de Niemors, Inc. On November 10, 1956, he married the
former Delores Trumbell. Mr. Price was a member of Shiloh
Tabernacle and was preceded in death by his parents, a
sister and a brother.

Mr. Dick G Prosch of Montague
Mr. Dick Prosch, age 88, died
October 10, 2009. Born in
Logansport, Indiana, to George and Margaret (Gangloff)
Prosch, he grew up in Berwyn,
a Chicago suburb and married
his childhood sweetheart,
Charlaine. They married on December
29, 1945, after Dick returned as a Navy Lieutenant
from World War II, having
served in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters, including
D-Day.
Dick owned several pharmacies in the Chicago suburbs for 28
years, then founded and operated Prosch Medical Supply in
Muskegon, Michigan, for
another 10 years.
Dick will be best remembered for his service to the
community, including Commodore of White Lake Yacht Club,
Kiwanis and a variety of business area beautification
projects in Chicago and Montague.
Dick and wife, Sharky (who died in 2007), were active and
enthusiastic members of Montague
United Methodist Church. At one of his
last church services before
his death, he introduced his two week old great-grandson,
Gabriel, to the congregation.

Mr. David M. H. Rager of Whitehall
David Melvin Harry Rager, age 81, met the goal of his faith,
and went home to be with his Savior, on July 1, 2011. He was
born June 24, 1930, in White River Township, to Frank J. and
Ruth A. (Nelson) Rager. A graduate of
Montague
High School, he proudly served his country in the US
Army during the Korean Conflict. On October 15, 1951, in
Montague, he married the former Patsy Ann LaFevre. Working
for 26 years as a machine operator at Howmet Corp., he
retired in 1994. A Charter member of
White
Lake Baptist Church, Mr. Rager had attended Shelby
Road Baptist Church, and currently was a member of
Cloverville
Baptist Church. He also was a member of Algot Johnson
American Legion Post #69. He was preceded in death by 2
sisters, Elaine Rager and Irene Wenzloff, and 3 brothers,
Clark Rager, Irvin Rager and Kenneth Rager.

Mrs. Ramthun, age 86, died Friday, June 5, 2009. She was
born
October 21, 1922, in
Montague, to Fred and Anna (Fehrenbach)
Kroll. On May 15, 1945, she
married Ralph C. Ramthun, in Montague. During
World War II,
she worked at Montague Post Office, then becoming a farm
wife and helpmate to her husband on their
dairy farm.
Mrs. Ramthun was a member of St. James Lutheran Church,
where she was active in
Sunday School,
Altar Guild and the LWML. She loved to garden - flowers and
stones were her passion - with sewing and crocheting her
hobbies, along with raising her 5 children and many
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a brother, Robert Kroll and a sister, Elaine
Jacobs.

Mr. R. Thomas Reese of Montague
Mr. R. Thomas "Tom" Reese, age 63, died August 23, 2010. He
was born April 20, 1947, in Niagara Falls, NY, to Richard
and Mary (Kiser) Reese.
He moved to the White Lake area in 1954 with his parents
when his dad was transferred to the Hooker Chemical Co.
plant in Montague. He attended Montague Schools and went on
to graduate from Michigan Tech University with a Bachelor
degree in Engineering. Upon college graduation he began his
career as a facilities engineer at Howmet Corp. in Whitehall
until retiring in 2008 as Facility Engineering Manager.
During his career, he got his license as a Professional
Engineer.
On September 22, 2001, he married the former Barbara Jenkins
VanEe. Serving on the Whitehall TIFA Board and the Whitehall
LFDA Board, he also was a member of the American
Professional Engineering Association. Tom loved fishing,
boating, duck hunting with his friends, downhill skiing and
golfing. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. He
was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, Hank
Kiser.

Sandra Lanning. Ron worked at Old Century Forge for many
years until retiring. He was preceded in death by a
grandson, Joshua Thies, and a brother, Art Robbins.

Dolores Evelyn (Zajicek) Roberts, age 92, passed away
Sunday,
December 13,
2009. She was born March 3, 1917, in
Chicago,
to Frank and Katherine (Sidlo) Roberts. Dolores moved to
Muskegon as a child and
graduated from
Muskegon High School. She
worked for General Telephone Co. as a bookkeeper for 26
years until retiring. She moved to Whitehall in
1978. Dolores loved animals and was a founding member of the
Muskegon County Humane Society,
of which she was very proud. She was a devoted Catholic and
member of
St. James Catholic Church
in
Montague. She was preceded in death by her
parents, a sister, Helen Miller, and a brother, Robert
Roberts.

Whitehall
Thomas L. Robinson, Sr., age 66, died
September 7, 2009. He was
born November 18, 1942, in
Hart, to James and Bessie (Robinson) Thatcher. On August 27,
1999, he married the former Luanne Thorndill in Muskegon.
Mr. Robinson had worked for White
Lake Landco for 15 years and was also a self-employed
auto mechanic. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters,
Sally Robinson and Rhonda
Morgan, a grandson, Dustin Robinson, 2 sisters, Edith and
Brenda, and a brother, Allan.
FAMILY: His wife, Luanne; 12 children, Edith Robinson, Elita
Robinson, Kaillou Robinson, Kamron Robinson, T.J.
Robinson, Tommy Robinson Jr., all of Whitehall, Todd
Robinson, Tessie Tovar of MO, Randy Russell of North
Muskegon, and Elaine Rolfe, Electra Rolfe and Paul Jackson,

Mr. Donald E. Roesler of Montague
Donald E. Roesler answered the final alarm and went
peacefully to Heaven, on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Don
was born September 17, 1931 to Henry and Gladys (Nelson)
Roesler in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Montague
High School in 1949 and joined the United States Navy where
he served for 4 years. He married Valerie Schmiege August
28, 1954 and together raised 5 children. Val preceded him in
death in 2008. Don was a mechanic by trade and had a family
owned service station in downtown Montague for many years.
Later he worked for Hunts Sales and Service and Boyd Earls
Lakeshore. Don was a member of the Montague Fire Department
for 52 years. He served the fire department in many
capacities over the years including Assistant Fire Chief. He
also was a Life member of White Lake Lodge #198. F & AM. Don
will be remembered for his love of community, his kind and
unselfish heart and his love of the Montague Wildcat
football team.
FAMILY: Don is survived by his children Pam (John) Degen,
Dan (Lisa) Roesler, Don (Cim) Roesler, Dennis (Vanessa)
Roesler and Darric (Dawn) Roesler, all of Montague; 18
grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; his brothers Henry
(Velma) Roesler and Wayne (Sue) Roesler.
VISITING TIME: A visitation will be held at the Montague
Fire Department Fire Station, 5085 Wilcox St.,
Montague, Monday September 26, at 6 - 8 pm. At 8 PM, a
Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted, followed by a
Military Salute, conducted by White Lake VFW Post #3256, at
the Fire Station in Montague.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: The Memorial Service will be held on
Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at 5 PM, at St. Peter's
By-the-Lake Episcopal Church, 8435 Old Channel
Trail, Montague, with the Rev. Fr. Everett H. Klein
officiating. A Fire Fighter's Salute will be conducted, at
the church, by the Montague Fire Department.

Mr. Henry E. Roesler Jr.
Henry E. Roesler Jr., age 84, Mayor of the City of Montague,
died November 1, 2011. He was born January 31, 1927, in
Chicago, to Henry E. Sr. and Gladys (Nelson) Roesler. A
graduate of the University of Chicago, he also graduated
from Worsham College of Mortuary Science and was a licensed
funeral director. On May 15, 1954, he married the former
Velma J. Walgren in Whitehall. He proudly served his country
in the US Army during World War II, and was a member of
White Lake VFW Post #3256 and Algot Johnson American Legion
Post #69. Dedicated to people and public service, Mr.
Roesler was currently Mayor of the City of Montague, where
he also had served as a police officer and was a former
Police Chief. A communicant member of Lebanon Lutheran
Church, he was a member of the MI Association of Police
Chiefs, was a charter member and Past-President of the
Montague Museum Board, was a former Scoutmaster for the Boy
Scouts of America, where he also was an Eagle Scout Mentor.
Mr. Roesler was a member of White Lake Lodge #198 F & AM and
White Lake OES Chapter #201. Mr. Roesler was preceded in
death by a brother, Donald Roesler.
FAMILY: His wife, Velma; 2 daughters, Linda Everitt Squires
and Cindy (Jim) Frale; 5 sons, David (Nanci) Roesler, Doug
(Kristen) Roesler, Dean (Anne) Roesler, Dwight (Michelle)
Roesler and Darrin (Leanne) Roesler; 14 grandchildren,
Brittney, Matt, Amanda, Brianne, Molly, Dustin, Bethany,
Angela, Dylan, Devin, Christopher, Nathan, Cole, and Conner;
1 brother, Wayne (Sue) Roesler.

Mr. Regis F. Roth of Whitehall
Mr. Roth, age 74, died September 3, 2009. He was born on
June 1, 1935, in Canonsburg, PA, to Frank and Elizabeth
(Carter) Roth. On March 30, 1957, he married the former
Elizabeth "Betty" McConnell, in Pittsburgh, PA, and had
lived in the White Lake area the past 42 years. He retired
in 1992 as General Manager of the Titanium Ingot Plant at
Howmet Corp., after 25 years of service. Mr. Roth was a
member of White Lake Eagles Aerie #3214 and had proudly
served in the US Army. He was preceded in death by a son,
Rege Jr., in 1957.
FAMILY: His wife, Betty; 1 daughter, Patricia Kelly of
Whitehall; 5 sons, Richard (Susan) Roth of PA, Donald Roth
of Montague, James (Angie) Roth of IN, Timothy Roth of
Whitehall and Daniel (Tarise) Roth of Montague; 22
grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; 2 brothers, James
(Elva Mae) Roth of PA and Robert (Dorothy) Roth of MN.

Mr. Peter C. Rolewicz of Montague,
MI (former resident of Tinley
Park, IL)
Mr. Rolewicz, age 72, died Sunday,
September 6, 2009,
at his home in Montague, MI. He was born on August 14, 1937,
in
Chicago, to Harry J. and Lucille (Slomka)
Rolewicz, and was a long-time resident of
Tinley
Park, IL, and Montague, MI. After overcoming
polio as a child, Peter attended
Brown University,
graduating with a
Bachelor Degree in
Economics. He received his
Juris Doctor
degree from
Chicago Kent College
of Law. He married his wife, the former Janet West, in 1965,
and started a family in 1967. While practicing law
independently and was the CEO and on the Board of Directors
of Royal Savings Bank, Peter's family grew through the
addition of biological and adopted children, as well as
being a foster parent to many babies. He retired and
moved back to the family home in the
White
Lake area. Mr. Rolewicz was a member of
St.
James Catholic Church of Montague, a member of
the
American Bar
Association, a member of the
South
Chicago Bar Association and had served on the
Kirby District #140 School Board. He was preceded in death
by a son, Timothy Rolewicz, a grandson, Ethan Rolewicz, a
sister, Anita George, and a brother, Harry Joseph Rolewicz
II.
He is SURVIVED by his wife of 44 years, Janet (West)
Rolewicz; his children, Peter C. Jr. (Elizabeth) Rolewicz,
Jennifer (Nick) Iannucilli, Andrew (Kerry) Rolewicz, Lori
(Mark) Newell, Jonathan (Carey) Rolewicz, David (Jeannine)
Rolewicz, Harry III (Kirsten) Rolewicz, Thaddeus John

Donna M. Roltsch, age 88, died October 30, 2010. She was
born August 1, 1922, in Muskegon, to Alva and Viva M. (Laubach)
Auble. On August 24, 1940, she married Walter C. Roltsch.
Mr. Roltsch preceded his wife in death on May 17, 2003. Mrs.
Roltsch had been a homemaker all her life. She was preceded
in death by a brother, Alva Auble Jr..

Mr. Michael G. Rudd of Whitehall
Mr. Michael G. Rudd, age 58, passed away
September 4, 2010, at Mercy Hospital. Mr. Rudd
was born September 25, 1951, in Muskegon, to Arthur G. and
Jean (Keurth) Rudd and was a lifelong resident of the area.
He attended Mona Shores and Ludington High Schools and
attended West Shore Community College in Scottville. He
earned a degree in Drafting and then formed his own
construction firm as a licensed contractor for many years.
On January 6, 1979, in Manistee, he married the former Arta
M. Speed. Mr. Rudd greatly enjoyed the outdoors, and was an
avid hunter and fisherman, a member of several outdoors
organizations. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by his wife, Arta; his children, Lee Jay
(Kim) Rudd
and Marlene Rudd; grandchildren, Skylar Brant and Landyn
Rudd; his father, Arthur Rudd.

Judith A. Rupar, age 66, died Monday, March 22, 2010. She
was born July 12, 1943, in Muskegon, to Bernard and Irene (Kruska)
Pawlowski. She earned a
Bachelor degree

College and taught school at St. Michael Catholic
School in Brunswick for over 30 years, retiring in
2007. Judith was a communicant member of
Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church
in Muskegon. She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Rupar,
her parents, Bernard & Irene Pawlowski, a brother, David
Pawlowski, and two brother-in-laws, Jerry Earhart and Steve
Mazurkiewicz.
