Mr. Aloysius "Al" Sabec of North Muskegon 

Mr. Aloysius "Al" Sabec, age 79, formerly of Whitehall, died June 2, 2010. He was born April 1, 1931, in Montreal, Wisconsin, to Leopold and Leocadia (Gulan) Sabec. He had worked as a miner and on July 11, 1953, he married the former Marianne O'Callahan, in Ironwood. Mrs. Sabec preceded him in death on April 14, 2009. Living in the White Lake area the past 49 years, he had worked for Campbell, Wyant & Cannon for 23 years, retiring in 1987. A member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in North Muskegon, he had been active in AA and De Colores. Al proudly served in the US Army, 3rd Infantry Division, 1st Cavalry Division, 77th Field Artillery during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a grandson, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

FAMILY: 4 sons, Mark (Carol) Sabec of MO, Rick (Judy) Sabec of North Muskegon, Joseph Sabec of IN and Bryan (Kristen) Sabec of Lansing; 6 daughters, Noreen (Warren) Reynolds of Muskegon, Mary Terese Desrocher of NH, Jeanne Carnes of Hesperia, Beth (Steve) Parker of Muskegon, Joy (Mike) Young of Lansing and Julie Kohler of Grand Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Marlene "Tootsie" Golenbski; 2 brothers, Clarence (Veronica) Sabec and Marion (Maryann) Sabec, both of WI; many nieces & nephews.

FUNERAL LITURGY: Monday, June 7, 2010, at 11:00 AM, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1110 Dykstra Rd., North Muskegon, with the Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pelak presiding. Interment will be made in Fruitland Township Cemetery. A Military Salute will be conducted at the cemetery by the Muskegon County Veteran Council.

ROSARY: A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, 7 PM, at Clock Funeral Home in Whitehall.

Mrs. Violet M. Schmiedeknecht of Whitehall (Widow of Ervin) 

Violet, age 98, died in her sleep Sunday, July 26, 2009.  She was born May 20, 1911, in Spring Lake, to Frank and Eliza Bliss.  She married Harold Christianson in 1930 and had two children, Harold Norman and Elaine Carol.  She married Ervin Schmiedeknecht in 1973, who preceded her in death in January 2009. 

Violet made friends wherever she went.  Besides being an avid bowler, golfer, and Pedro card player, she found much joy in cooking, flower gardening, and caring for her many beloved pets.  In addition to caring for her two children, Violet opened her heart to five foster children.  She especially enjoyed the refreshing truths she was learning by faithfully attending the meetings of the Northwest Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.  Violet was loved by all there!

Violet's family wishes to thank all the staff of Heartland Manor for their loving care. 

She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister. 

She is survived by her two children, Elaine C. Kelley and Harold Norman Christianson; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother, Virgil (Mamie) Bliss; several dear nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Crezens A. Scholl of Muskegon (former longtime resident of Whitehall) (widow of Vern) 

Mrs. Scholl, age 94, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009, at her home. She was born January 24, 1915, in Muskegon, to George and Sofia (Krause) Kaufman, where she grew up and graduated from Muskegon High School. She attended Chicago Teacher's College and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan Normal School (now, University). She was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Sorority. She began her teaching career in Muskegon Public Schools in 1938, marrying her husband Vern Scholl, in 1941, when she moved to Whitehall. Vern preceded her in death in 1996. With a passion for reading and writing for her students, in 1950, she began a storied elementary school teaching career for Whitehall Public Schools, retiring in 1976. She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Graichen and a brother-in-law, Ralph Graichen.

Mr. Earl E. Schneider of Whitehall 

Mr. Schneider, age 86, reached the goal of his faith on April 12, 2010. Born October 29, 1923, in White River Township, to Gustave and Marie (Jung) Schneider, he had lived in the area all his life. On January 7, 1955, he married the former Donna Deitz. Mr. Schneider worked as a truck driver for 42 years, primarily for Teledyne Continental Motors prior to retiring and was a communicant member of St. James Lutheran Church in Montague. He also worked for Clock Funeral Home in Whitehall for 20 years. Proudly serving in the US Army in the Pacific during World War II, he was a Life member of White Lake VFW Post #3256. Earl was preceded in death by a daughter, Danette, and 2 brothers, Carl and Harold.

Mrs. Virginia Schroeder (widow of Ed) of Rothbury

Virgina "Ginny" Schroeder, age 82, died Thursday morning, November 10, 2011, at her daughter, Linda's home, in Holton. She was born September 16, 1929, in Oceana County, to Harold and Tessie (Andrews) Morningstar. On November 15, 1952, in Montague, she married Edward P. Schroeder, who preceded her in death in 1996. Ginny worked for Whitehall Public Schools for 25 years driving bus for special needs students. She retired in 1992. Ginny was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Montague, where she was a member of LWML and worked on various other mission projects at church. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Ginny was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Mr. Roy W. Schuitema Of Whitehall 

Mr. Schuitema, age 86, died Monday, December 14, 2009. He was born on December 17, 1922, in Muskegon, to Ralph R. and Hazel (Crispell) Schuitema. He grew up in the Blue Lake area and was married to the former Pearl Chichester, who preceded him in death in 1988. Mr. Schuitema worked as a mechanic for the City of Whitehall until retiring. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by three sons, Michael, David & Bruce, a brother, Peter Schuitema, a half-sister, Grace, and a half-brother, George.

Mr. Zachary J. Schultz of North Muskegon 

Zachary John Schultz, age 29, died Saturday, February 20, 2010. He was born September 28, 1980, in Muskegon, to John and Kathie (Nummerdor) Schultz. A hard worker with a strong work ethic, he owned and operated Schultz Sewer & Drain Cleaning Service.  An avid hunter, fisherman and all-around outdoorsman, Zach was happiest being in and around nature.

He is survived by 1 son, Jacob Schultz; 2 step-sons, Kegan & Kaden Wesley; his mother, Kathie Schultz; a sister, Kristen Schultz; grandparents, Thomas & Artis Nummerdor and William Schultz; aunts, uncles, cousins and Jim. Zach was preceded in death by his father, John Schultz, the mother of his children, Alicia Wesley, an infant daughter, Jaden Schultz, and his grandmother, Angela Schultz.

Mrs. Catherine J. "Katy" Seaben of Montague

Catherine J. "Katy" Seaben, age 73, died November 9, 2011. She was born September 30, 1938, in Wyoming, to Thomas and Beatrice Kopenkoskey. On March 3, 1956, in Fremont, she married Henry Seaben. Mrs. Seaben had been a homemaker all her life. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Corbin Brown, a sister, June, and three brothers, Robert, Jack and Tom, besides her parents.

Mr. Kenneth J. Sharlow Jr. Of  Whitehall 

Mr. Sharlow, age 46, died July 8, 2009. A member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of the Ojibwe Indians, he was born November 7, 1962, to Kenneth J. Sr. and Mary E. (Jackson) Sharlow, in Hayward, Wisconsin. On August 8, 1980, he married the former Janet Beeman, in Lakewood Club, and most recently worked in Quality Control at Shape Corp. Mr. Sharlow had a passion for gardening.

Donna M. Sharp, age 81, died August 11, 2010. She was born February 10, 1929, in Claybanks Township, Oceana County, to August and Clara (Jonseck) Schmiedeknecht. On September 8, 1972, she married Perry C. "P. C." Sharp, who preceded her in death. A homemaker all her life, Mrs. Sharp was a communicant member of St. James Lutheran Church and had been an active member of the White Lake VFW Post #3256 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Schmiedeknecht and Dorothy Gibbs, and a brother, LeRoy Schmiedeknecht.

Mr. Howard E. "Bud" Shaver of Montague 

Howard E. "Bud" Shaver, age 78, died June 12, 2011. He was born May 5, 1933, in Gary, Indiana, to Raymond and Agnes (Johnson) Shaver. Mr. Shaver served in the US Army and had lived in West Michigan since 1967. He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Boersma.

Mr. Shaver is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Shaver of Hart and Robin Shaver of Colorado; 1 granddaughter, Jylisa Hovey of Hart; 1 grandson, Collin Dodds of Hesperia; 1 great-granddaughter, Alexandre Vasquez; 2 sisters, Ardella (Jerry) Pruitt and Bonnie (Roland) Moore, both of Florida.

Mr. David F. Sherwood of  Whitehall 

David F. Sherwood, age 89, died March 3, 2011. He was born October 5, 1921, in Muskegon Township, to William Riley and Vanchie (Vickery) Sherwood. Proudly serving in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II, on November 7, 1947, he married the former Bernice Kasper McPherson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dan, and 4 sisters and 8 brothers.

Mr. Benny G. Shingler of New Era

Benny G. Shingler, age 58, died Monday, December 12, 2011, with his loving family at his side. He was born December 6, 1953, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Billy A. and Wilma (DVall) Shingler. On February 19, 2011, he married the former Janice A. Anderson. Benny worked as a diesel mechanic for Star Truck Rental. A member of the Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69, he proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Billy & Wilma, 2 sons, Glen Shingler and James Shingler, and a sister, Linda Goforth.

Mr. Ernest A. Shirtum of Montague 

Mr. Ernest A. Shirtum, age 88, died July 11, 2011. He was born November 5, 1922, in Claybanks Township, to Earl and Elizabeth (Boelke) Shirtum. On July 14, 1946, in Mineola, New York, he married the former Mary F. Knuppel. Proudly serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, Mr. Shirtum worked at Hooker Chemical Co. in maintenance for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Claybanks United Methodist Church and White Lake VFW Post #3256. Mr. Shirtum was preceded in death by a son, James Shirtum, a daughter, Susan Zielinski Clark, and a sister, Nellie Switzer.

Mr. Joshua A. Short of Lakewood Club 

Joshua A. Short, age 26, died January 27, 2010, in Grand Rapids. He was born January 21, 1984, in Fremont, the son of Marvin and Virginia (Short) Witham. On October 16, 2009, he married the former Melisa Pearo, and had worked at the Stoneheart Co. He was preceded in death by his father and grandfathers.

Mr. William A. Siedenstrang of Whitehall 

William August Siedenstrang, 76, of Whitehall, died Saturday, November 21, 2009, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born January 26, 1933, in Whitehall. He married Donna Ehlke on January 30, 1952. He worked for Whitehall Leather Co. and later, for Sealed Power Corp. until retiring. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Montague. William was preceded in death by his mother and father, a granddaughter, Teraha Landis, and a brother, Joe Siedenstrang.

He is SURVIVED by his loving wife, Donna; two sons, William (Kathleen) Siedenstrang and Jeffery Siedenstrang; four daughters, Susan (David) Crider, Marcia (Andy) Chen, Judy (Patrick) Landis and Lori (Denny) Vandervest; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Elmer Siedenstrang.

Mrs. Eleanor I. Sikkenga (widow of Harold) of Montague

Eleanor I. Sikkenga, age 87, reached the goal of her faith and met her Savior face to face Monday, September 5, 2011. She was born October 20, 1923, in Dalton Township, to Arthur and Hattie (Cook) Todd. A graduate of North Muskegon High School and a member of Fruitland Evangelical Covenant Church, on March 28, 1946, she married Harold J. Sikkenga, in New Era, at which time she became a member of New Era Christian Reformed Church. Mr. Sikkenga preceded her in death in 1998. After high school, she was employed by Budd Jewelry Co. of Muskegon. After marriage, she and her husband spent 38 years owning and operating Windy Acres Dairy Farm in Montague. Upon retirement, they spent time as volunteers for the American Red Cross and ECHO of Ft. Myers, FL, and Wycliffe in Texas. Active in her church with Coffee Break Bible Study, she also served as a volunteer at Muskegon Pregnancy Services and was an instructor at Crossroads Bible Institute in Grand Rapids. Mrs. Sikkenga had also been a member of the New Era Christian School Society and the Farm Bureau. She was preceded in death by sisters, Anna Buckingham, Edna Copley and Julia Fox, and brothers, Robert Todd and James Todd.

Mrs. Caroline R. Slater, age 72, died November 16, 2010, in Indiana. She was born July 15, 1938, in Grand Rapids, to Gould and Ruth (Sullivan) Fetterhoff. On March 1, 1973, she married Elmer G. Mrs. Diane L. Smith Of Montague 

Diane L. Smith, age 79, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at her home. She was born December 3, 1929, in Montague, to Robert and Leona (Bowens) Blackburn. A homemaker all her life, she was married to Robert K. Smith on August 11, 1948, in Montague. Diane had a passion for singing and had been a vocalist for the Jim Todd Starlight Brass Orchestra for many years, was a regular singer in Showboat and loved to play Set Back with her family. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Jeffrey Smith and Robert B. "Robin" Smith, a brother, Robert, and 6 sisters, Donna, Norma, Mary Jane, Josephine, Leone and Peggy.

Mr. Donald J. "Don" Smith of Rothbury 

Donald J. "Don" Smith, age 66 of Rothbury passed away after his battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.  Don was born on March 5, 1943 in Muskegon, MI to Clarence and Ruth Smith.  On June 7, 1969, he married Arlene Anderson at the Congregational Church in Whitehall.  Don was employed for 16 years at Funnell's Barbershop in Whitehall as a barber and then went to work for Hayes Lemmerz until his retirement in 2006.  Don was a hard, conscientious worker who earned the respect of those who worked along side him.  Don will be fondly remembered by many for loving to spend time with his family, being a people person, and an outdoor enthusiast.  Don greatly enjoyed the outdoors and spent his free time bird watching, hunting, fishing, or trapping.  When he wasn't communing with nature, he loved playing catch, cribbage, riding quad, or sitting around the campfire with his family.  Don also loved to meet new people and swap stories with old friends at his home.  He will be greatly missed by his wife, Arlene, son, Jacob (Amy) Smith, brother, Raymond (Dona) Smith, grandchildren, Hana, Jarrett and Jenna Smith, numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Rev. Donna J. Smith-Snyder of Whitehall

Rev. Donna J. Smith-Snyder, died January 1, 2011. She was born in Shelby, Michigan on November 17, 1927 to Clare and Gertrude (Sprunger) Smith.  Rev. Donna graduated Summa Cum Laude from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1981 and worked there until her retirement in 1992.

Feeling the call to become a minister, Rev. Donna spent two years in training at the World Headquarters of Unity Church in Lee Summit, Missouri.  She graduated and was ordained in June of 1995.  Rev. Donna was preceeded in death in September of 2007 by her husband, Bill Snyder, who had helped her pioneer Unity Church on the Lakeshore in Douglas, Michigan, of which she is Minister Emeritus.

Family, friends, and ministry were all very important to Rev. Donna.  She also enjoyed gardening, music, reading, bird watching and her cat Tigger.

SURVIVORS: Daughter, Kathy Brooks (Ron) of North Muskegon Michigan, son, David Russell (Nancy) of Fort Meyers, Florida, brother Roger Smith (Lola deceased) of Shelby, Michigan, brother Brad Smith (Ginny, deceased) of Englewood Florida, sister Mary (Smith) Glover (Larry) of Manistee, Michigan, step daughters Nancy (Snyder)Russell (Nick) of Dexter, Michigan and Kathy (Snyder)Frazier (Tim) of Spring Lake, Michigan.  She also has nine grandchildren and four great-grand children.  Rev. Donna was preceeded in death by her son Michael Russell of Coopersville, Michigan, brother Larry Smith (Marilyn), or Portage, Michigan, brother Lamont Smith (Mary)of Newago, Michigan, and sister Kathleen Smith of Ferry, Michigan.

Kenneth L. "Hillbilly" Smith, age 65, died June 25, 2010. He was born January 20, 1945, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, to Kenneth and Lova (Studebaker) Smith. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. On July 29, 1965, in Indiana, he married the former Jeannean McKowen. Mr. Smith worked as a millwright at Howmet Corp. for over 40 years, retiring in 1999.

Mrs. Smith, age 85, died June 16, 2009. She was born September 6, 1923, in Ravenna, to Ralph and Blanche (Wall) Clary. On December 21, 1940, she married Steve Tabor, who preceded her in death in 1972. On January 18, 1975, she married William E. Smith. Mrs. Smith was co-owner with her husband, and bookkeeper of Tabor Trucking & Crane Service until retiring. Her passions, besides her family, were jigsaw puzzles, macrame and mushroom hunting. She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, a sister, a brother and a daughter-in-law.

Mr. Raymond J. Sones of Whitehall 

Mr. Sones, age 68, died June 30, 2010. He was born August 6, 1941, in Indiana, to Raymond and Bertha (Olds) Sones. On October 24, 1970, in North Muskegon, he married the former Sue Sweet and together with her, had been a summer resident of the White Lake area the past 20 years. A union organizer and expediter for 40 years, retiring from UFCW and IUOE, he had also been a self-employed truck owner for 15 years, retiring in 2009. Mr. Sones was a member of Muskegon Conservation Club, a member of the Elks, a member of the Eagles, and a member of the Moose Lodge, where he was named Angler & Archer of the year in 1996. He held the unofficial title of "Mayor of Whitehall Landing". He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Sones.

FAMILY: His wife, Sue Sones; his children, Al Sones of FL, Ray Sones Jr. of AZ and Lisa Sones of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Brittany Host of Grand Rapids, and Sebastion Sones and Zaxton Sones, both of FL; 2 sisters, Alma Sones of TX and Rosie Sones of IA; a brother, Robert Sones of IN.

Mr. Keith A. Struble of Montague 

Keith Alva Struble, 61 years old, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Mercy Hospital after a long battle with lung cancer. His loving wife and family were with him by his side.

He was born in Fremont on February 17, 1948, to Alva & Ethel (Coburn) Struble.

He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Navy and the US Marine Corps.

He retired from Howmet/Alcoa in 1998.

On April 19, 1980, he married Jean (Lewandowski) Pillman in Shelby.

SURVIVORS include his wife, Jean; a son, Paul (Yvonne) Struble of Hart; a daughter, Shellynne (Brad) Blamer of Fremont; step-son, Steven Pillman (fiance, Edna Moorefield) of Ft. Wayne, IN; step-daughter, Amy (A. J.) Ule of Pittsburgh, PA; his father & step-mother, Alva & Jackie Struble of Fremont; grand-children, Kendra (Steven) LaFlame and Joesph McClernan; step-grandchildren, Bret, Ben & Brianna Blamer; a sister, Charlene (Jerry) Miller of Evart; 2 brothers, Dwayne (Emelia) Struble of Hesperia and Adrian (Ruby) Struble of Utah; special niece and her husband, Tammy (Aaron) Broughman and their daughters, Brittany and Katelyn, all of Muskegon, and many other family members and his fishing buddies at White Lake and Montague pier.

Keith enjoyed fishing, camping by the Manistee River, bow hunting, casino gambling and Lumberjack hockey games. He also enjoyed watching the wildlife in his back yard.

Mr. Squires, age 75, died Monday, September 7, 2009. He was born February 23, 1934, in Hart , to Earl and Nita (Morris) Squires. On January 2, 1953, in Montague, he married the former Helen Baxter. Mr. Squires had worked at Hooker Chemical Co., then Lomac, until retiring in 2001. He served in the US Army. Mr. Squires was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Squires and a sister, Marilyn Pike.

Mr. Stagner, age 63, died May 12, 2009. He was born February 6, 1946, in Shelby, to Thurlow and Dolly (Sallgren) Stagner. Mr. Stagner worked as a truck driver for 40 years, last working for Peterson Farms in Shelby. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was a member of Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69. Mr. Stagner was preceded in death by his mother, Dolly, and a twin brother, Ronald Stagner.

Mr George W. Stamm Jr.of Montague 

Mr. Stamm, age 77, died Saturday, December 12, 2009. He was born November 20, 1932, in Cadiz, Ohio, to George W. Sr. and Olive (Wolf) Stamm. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, where he attended college through a football scholarship, which he was very proud of, and earned his Bachelor of Education degree, while playing on the Ohio Buckeye football team for four years. He had owned and operated Ultra Services of America in Illinois for 35 years. On November 26, 1987, he married the former Susan Gibbs, and together they have lived in the White Lake area the past 11 years. Mr. Stamm was a member of White Lake Eagles Aerie #3214. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ross Stamm and Keith Stamm.

Jeannette J. Stamper, age 103, died July 12, 2010. She was born October 24, 1906. in Grand Rapids, to John and Arendina (Macore) Berghorn. On July 18, 1925, she married Enoch Stamper, who preceded her in death in 1981. Mrs. Stamper had been a homemaker all her life. She was preceded in death by 3 children, Barbara Stamper, John Stamper, and James Stamper, and a grandson, Terry Stamper.

Mr. Dennis C. Stevens of Montague 

Dennis Clark Stevens, age 64, passed away unexpectedly early Monday morning, February 14, 2011. He was born July 11, 1946, in Shelby, to Kenneth and Eleanor (Teichthesen) Stevens.

He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict. In 1965, he married the former Leah Berg.

Denny was employed as an industrial electrician at Howmet Corp. (Alcoa). He a board member of Harbor Light Credit Union.

A life member of St. James Lutheran Church in Montague, he enjoyed baseball and NASCAR and dreamed of visiting many baseball stadiums and attend the Daytona 500 when he and wife, Leah, retired.

Denny has most been known for his dedicated and tireless service to White Lake Little League for over 30 years, starting out as a coach and also is a Past-President of the league.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Stevens, an infant sister, and his father-in-law, Richard Berg.

FAMILY: He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Leah; 2 daughters, Debra (Michael) Wells and Pamela Stevens (Christopher Scott); 2 grandchildren, Caden and Nicholas; 2 step-grandchildren, Haley & Zach; his mother, Eleanor Stevens; 1 brother, Robert (Candace) Stevens; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Berg; 4 brothers-in-law; 4 sisters-in-law; nieces & nephews; many friends in the White Lake community.

Mr. Robert E. Streeting of Whitehall 

Robert E. Streeting, age 87, died August 21, 2011. He was born September 24, 1923, in Muskegon, to Walter and Carolyn (Brown) Streeting. A graduate of Muskegon High School, he worked for 29 years for Teledyne Continental Motors, retiring in 1983. Mr. Streeting was an avid golfer and loved to watch it on TV. He loved to play baseball as well as watch it, and rode his bicycle every day as long as he could. In retirement, he also enjoyed many on-the-water activities. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, a grandson, Cohen, and a brother, Ray.

Chloey Ann Stout, age 7, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010. She was born on December 12, 2002, in Muskegon. She was a first grader at Lakeview Elementary School in Ludington. Chloey was preceded in death by great- grandparents, William Siedenstrang, Fred Korthase,  Alexander Dresden, and Evonne & Marvin Stoudt, a great- uncle, John Dresden and a cousin, Terraha Landis.

Edward L. Stout, age 58, died very unexpectedly on June 28, 2010.  He was born February 16, 1952, in Muskegon, to Raymond and Rita (Lawrence) Stout. On November 11, 1972, in Muskegon, he married the former Janet Rosencrants. Mr. Stout had worked as a tin smith at Lift-Tec Inc. Well known for his love of singing, Ed & Janet, with a karaoke business, frequently conducted karaoke at Pinheads, Algot Johnson American Legion Post and White Lake VFW. An avid motorcyclist, he was a member of the American Legion Riders, ABATE and was also a member of White Lake Eagles Aerie #3214. As well as his family, Ed loved hunting and fishing and was a member of Fox Lake Rod & Gun Club.

Maxine M. Stout, age 87, died July 14, 2010. She was born march 27, 1923, in Muskegon, to William and Annie (Allen) McMahon. On February 26, 1944, in Muskegon, she married Clarence Stout. He preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Stout had been a homemaker all her life and was an avid bowler in WII Bowling and the Senior Bowling League . She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Stout in 1997 and 3 sisters, Dolores Crotty, Mary Young and Evelyn Norman.

Paulette M. Stuberg, age 44, died August 29, 2011, in Florida. She was born February 8, 1967, in Shelby, to Clifford H. Jr. and Helen (Pulaski) Stuberg. She had worked in food service in Florida for many years. She was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford H. Stuberg III.

Coty Timothy Swanson of Lakewood Club

Coty Timothy Swanson, age 18, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009. He was born in Muskegon on July 9, 1991 to Conrad R and Sarah (Bloomberg) Swanson.

Coty had just graduated this May from Whitehall High School. Coty had a passion for many sports, the beach, his dog Memphis, his many friends and family.

Coty’s final accomplishment was being able to help save the lives of many people thru the "gift of life" program, in doing so Coty has been able to give the biggest gift of all, the "Gift of Life". His family is very proud that he will live on in others.

Kenneth A. Temple, age 75, died July 12, 2010. He was born December 29, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa, to George A. and Mildred I. (James) Temple. On September 26, 1953, he married the former Nancy LaVasseur, and she preceded him in death in 1999. Mr. Temple had worked for GTE and retired as a supervisor in 1988. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Temple, and 2 brothers, Albert Temple and Robert Temple.

Mrs. Marian L. Tenbrink of Muskegon 

Marian Louise TenBrink, age 89, of Muskegon, passed away May 30, 2009. She was born January 28, 1920, in Grand Haven, to Darwin and Agnes (Shashagway) Beebe. She married Gradus TenBrink Sr. in 1937. The were married over 50 years until his death in 1988, raising their family on a farm in Claybanks Township. Mrs. TenBrink was a proud member of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians and also a member of White Lake VFW Post #3256 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna TenBrink, a granddaughter, Sherry Ward, a son-in-law, Dennis Patterson, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Mrs. TenBrink is survived by her children, Gradus Jr. "Junior" (Carol) TenBrink, James (Cheryl) TenBrink, Allen (Sandy) TenBrink, and Sandra (Fred) Ward, all of Montague, Donald (Barb) TenBrink of Grand Haven, Simon (Mary Lou) TenBrink of Spring Lake, Terry (Jane) TenBrink of Shelby, Ronald (Norma Jean) TenBrink Kevin (Holly) TenBrink and Agnes Patterson, all of Muskegon, as well as 29 grand-children and many great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sandra K. "Sandy" Tenbrink of Montague 

Mrs. Sandy TenBrink, age 57, died Sunday, October 18, 2009, in Ann Arbor. She was born March 18, 1952, in Muskegon, to Harley and Norma (Carmean) Garvey. On March 25, 1972, in Muskegon, she married Allen TenBrink. Sandy had worked as a cook at Montague Public Schools for 25 years. An extremely loving wife, mother and grandmother, Sandy loved spending time being silly with her grandkids, loved racing, and loved helping others. She was preceded in death by her father, Harley Garvey, her in-laws, Gradus and Marion TenBrink, a brother-in-law, Dennis Patterson and a sister-in-law, Eugena Garvey.

Stephanie D. Tennant, age 32, died September 24, 2010. She was born October 21, 1977, in Shelby, to Jerry Gardner and Bonnie Kari. The former Stephanie VanDeCreek was married to Jason Tennant, who preceded her in death in 2001. She had worked in food service at various locations over the years.

Mr. Todd, age 60, died unexpectedly on Saturday, June 27, 2009. He was born May 1, 1949, in Chicago, to James and Margaret Todd. He was married to the former Mary Englehart and had lived in the White Lake area the past 15 years. He most recently had worked as a manager at Lowe's. Mr. Todd served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict, and was a member of Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69 in Whitehall and the Wood-Tazelaar DAV Post #11 in Muskegon.

Marie A. "Bee" Tomsik, age 93, of Whitehall, passed away on July 22, 2011. She was born April 1, 1918, in Grand Rapids, to Frank and Katherine (Gardella) Clelland. Marie was a wonderful "Aunt Bee" to three generations of nieces and nephews. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and many dear friends. Bee was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Florence Clelland, William Clelland, Katherine Williams, Elizabeth Wheeler, Frank Clelland, Lillian Schaefer, Robert Clelland and Dorothy McIntyre.

Helen E. Winter Tries, age 90, died October 3, 2011. She was born November 11, 1920, in Timisora, Romania, to Alfred and Paula (Senna) Vancsina. She was married to Alexander Winter, who preceded her in death in 1943. Later, she married Michael Tries, who preceded her in death in 2009. Mrs. Tries had worked at Howmet Corp. until retiring.

Elsie May Vandeborne, age 74, of Montague, passed away November 9, 2009. She was born December 11, 1935, in Grand Blanc, to Harry and Helen (Driscoll) Scholland. She was married to John Vandeborne and had operated a Gamble's Store in Ada, Ohio, for many years. She moved to Montague and was employed by Howmet Corp. for 26 years. Elsie was active in the Montague-Whitehall Lions Club and delivered Meals on Wheels to all her special friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Mike.

Helen M. VanDeSande, age 93, died February 4, 2011. She was born December 29, 1917, in Owosso, to Fred D. and Susanna (Richter) Johnson. On March 2, 1940, she married Glen O. VanDeSande, in Perry. He preceded her in death in 1976. Mrs. VanDeSande worked as a personnel assistant at Hooker Chemical Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1980. She was an active member of Montague United Methodist Church, a Founding member of the Dirt Dauber Garden Club, had been a volunteer at Mercy Hospital, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of White Lake VFW #3256 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Johnson, and 2 sisters, Eleanor Haskill and Cleo Johnson.

Steven C. VanKammen, age 21, died April 24, 2010, in Grand Rapids. He was born September 27, 1988, in Muskegon, to Craig and Wendi (Schnepp) VanKammen. Steve was a graduate of Whitehall High School, had worked at Meijer, and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Mr. Brad L. Varela of Muskegon

Brad L. Varela, age 24, died Saturday, August 27, 2011, in Montague. He was born November 29, 1986, in Shelby, to Ernest Varela and Cindy (Artman) Varela. On June 26, 2008, he married the former Melissa Porter. He was working as an apprentice at Engine Power Components.

Brad was an extraordinary husband, son and brother, who held his life, as well as that of others, very precious. He had a young life that challenged him until he met his opposite - a woman full of beauty and intelligence - which helped him enhance the true loving, caring, artistic man we have always known and loved. He was a man that could walk into a room full of sadness and bring sunshine and happiness with just his smile. He could squash any confrontation with just his poise. He will sadly and long be missed.

Dr. Joseph A. Verschueren, DVM of North Muskegon 

Dr. Joseph A. Verschueren, age 89, died July 13, 2010. He was born June 11, 1921, in Hart, to John and Margaret (Wicks) Verschueren. A veteran of World War II, where he served in the US Army, in Europe, seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge, on November 22, 1956, he married the former Donna Speed Peterson. Attending Michigan State University of Veternary Medicine  before and after military service, where he graduated, Dr. Verschueren opened and operated his own veternary practice in North Muskegon and Whitehall from 1952 on. He was a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church where he served as an Elder for a number of years. Dr. Verschueren as a member of the Michigan Harness Horsemen Association, a member of the Twisting Trails Snowmobile Club, a member of the Greater Muskegon Skeet & Trap Club, a member of Seaway Trap Club and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He had a passion for big game hunting. Dr. Verschueren was preceded in death by a son, John "Rick" Verschueren, and 2 sisters, Betty Beadle and Adamarie Merrifield.

Janet L. Vincent, age 66, died Thursday, January 21, 2010, in Florida. Mrs. Vincent was born July 14, 1943, in Muskegon, to Victor P. and Fern E. (Warmoeskerken) Haney. On July 5, 1959, in Montague, she married George O. Vincent III. Mr. Vincent preceded her in death in 2005. Mrs. Vincent had been a homemaker most of her life and was a member of Rothbury Community Church. A son, George Vincent IV preceded her in death.

Frances M. "Fran" Wahr, age 84, died August 24, 2011. She was born, December 27, 1927, in Chicago, to John and Theresa Krupinski. In 1952, she married Clarence Wahr. He preceded her in death in 1994. Fran worked at Miller's IGA in Montague for many years, and later worked at North Labs/Perrigo in Montague until retiring. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Stanley Krupinski, Joe Kilarski and Edward Kilarski, and a dear sister-in-law, Jeannette Kilarski.

FAMILY: She is survived by her children, Virginia Farmer, John (Rebecca) Wahr and Diana (Duane) Davis; grandchildren, Robert Wahr, Rachel Wahr, Jeff (Brandy) Griswold, Amy Griswold and Katie (Dale) Fogg; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Griswold, Brenna Shank and Keagan Shank; sisters and brother-in-laws in Muskegon and Ludington and their children, as well as a dear niece and nephew from Chicago.

Mr. Edwin D. "Tiger" Ward of Whitehall

Edwin D. "Tiger" Ward, age 77, died July 16, 2011, in Detroit. He was born November 18, 1933, in Greenville, to William and Treasa (VanDyke) Ward. Proudly serving his country in the US Navy, on February 17, 1956, he married the former Mary Flory. Mr. Ward worked at Bennett Pump Co. until retiring. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, and three brothers.

Linda J. Waruszewski, age 59, died October 11, 2010. She was born December 28, 1950, in Shelby, to Leslie J. and Mary Ann (Gutfield) Forbes. On January 18, 1969, she married Stanley L. Waruszeswki, and with him, co-owned and was General Manager of White Lake Landco for 10 years, retiring in 1997. Linda was a member of Life Change Church in North Muskegon.

Mrs. Margaret A. "Margie" Weidner of  Whitehall 

Mrs. Weidner, age 81, died January 24, 2010. She was born March 5, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, to Upton and Kathryn (Coleman) Garlaugh. She had attended Heidleburg University in Tifflin, Ohio, and on June 22, 1950, in Miamisburg, Ohio, married Bernard L. Weidner. As well as being a homemaker, Mrs. Weidner worked for 17 years for Muskegon Bank & Trust Co., retiring in 1986. She had been a member of Miamisburg Prasser Chapter of OES #397, and with her husband, had been a long-time member of the Friends of the Whitehall City Library, and along with her husband, spent time doing missionary work, especially getting food to those in need in Mexico.

FAMILY: Her husband, Bernard; 5 daughters, Kathryn (Jim) Boardwell of Whitehall, Arleen (Bob) O'Brien, Lora Lee (Jerry) Meyerink and Linda (Rick) Gillette, all of Grand Rapids and Geraldine Weidner of CO; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

Mr.Paul E. "#20 Car" Weisner  of Whitehall 

Paul E. Weisner, age 76, took his final checkered flag on August 3, 2011, with his biggest fans by his side. He was born October 14, 1934, in Muskegon, to Delmar and Hazel (Waters) Weisner. On January 15, 1955, in Muskegon, he married the former Patsy Rich. He worked at S. D. Warren Paper Co. for many years until retiring. Known for racing the #20 car at various area short tracks from 1956-1979, Paul is currently nominated for entry into the Michigan Motor Sports Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Deron Weisner.

Mr. Fredrick A. Welch Sr. of Walkerville 

Fredrick Allen Welch Sr. of Walkerville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 23, 2011. He was born August 5, 1955, in Muskegon, to Franklin and Arthuretta (Dove) Welch.

Mr. Welch had been self-employed as an auto mechanic as well as working in construction for Simon Construction Co. He served in the US Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sabrina Welch, a grandson, Joshua Houston, sisters, Ginger Welch and Marsha Welch, brothers, Gerald Welch and Franklin Welch, two nieces, April Welch and Gene Ann Welch, and a nephew, Matthew Ball.

Mrs. Welch, age 61, died July 31, 2009. She was born November 25, 1947, in Detroit, to Robert and Shirley (Connor) Wilson. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Wilson.

Irene M. Wenzloff, died May 31, 2010. She was born December 16, 1921, in Montague, to Frank and Ruth (Nelson) Rager. On August 12, 1962, she married Allan W. Wenzloff in California. Formerly living in California, she had operated a Family Living Home, and returning to the White Lake area, had been a homemaker. Mr, Hubert "Hubie" KB9NHE Widner of Whitehall

Mr. Hubert "Hubie" Widner, age 83, died July 17, 2011. He was born January 18, 1928, in Bristol, Tennessee, to Fred M. and Lottie (Oliver) Widner. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps, during World War II, in the 82nd Airborne Division, as a Jump Master. In 1971, he married the former Dixie DeCounter, in Chicago. Mr. Widner was a self-employed contractor for over 40 years. A long time Illinois resident, he is a Past Commander of the Evanston Power Squadron, and a member of the Moose Lodge, Order of Oddfellows, Rebekah Lodge #587 of Chicago, and the Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69 of Whitehall. He was also a member of the Muskegon Amateur Radio Council/ARRL member, call letters "KB9NHE". Mr. Widner was preceded in death by a step-son, Emmett Dunham and 4 brothers, Jay, Marvin, Robert and Jack Widner.

Mr. Darrell E. Whitaker of North Muskegon

Darrell E. Whitaker, age 74, died January 15, 2012. He was born January 30, 1937, in Hart, to John and Irene (Craker) Whitaker. On March 12, 1955, he married the former Shirley Robbins. Mr. Whitaker was a member of the US Navy, retiring in 1985 and a pipefitter by trade; he had worked for Local #154 Plumbers and Pipefitters, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #174 and a member of Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69 in Whitehall, where he served for many years on the Honors Squad. Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Ernest & Rita Robbins; and 2 sisters, Rosemary Frees and Cleo Kennedy.

Mr. Earl V. Willacker of Whitehall 

Earl Vernon Willacker, age 81, died October 18, 2010. He was born on October 3, 1929, to Michael "Henry" Willacker and Helen (Michels) Willacker in Muskegon. He married Lynne Vivian Dahlstrom on October 13, 1951, in Montague.

Earl retired from Howmet Turbine Components Corporation where he worked as a machinist and served as In-Plant Chairman for the United Auto Workers Union Local 1243. He was a 50+ year member of AA and made a positive impact in the lives of many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lynne, son, David Willacker, and siblings, Richard Willacker, Lorraine Willacker, Marian Willacker, Charles "Arvon" (Ruth) Willacker, Harold Willacker, Robert (Sue) Willacker and Mildred Willacker.

Mr. Floyd L. Wiltse of Montague 

Mr. Floyd L. Wiltse, age 77, passed away July 8, 2009. He was born June 27, 1932, in Whitehall, to Albert J. and Lucille (Letendre) Wiltse. He was a 1951 graduate of Montague High School and proudly served in the US Army, spending 18 months in Korea as a medic. On November 13, 1954, he married the former Alice Gretchen Anderson at Montague Methodist Church. He retired after 36 years of service from Sears, Roebuck & Co. Floyd enjoyed working with wood, gardening, NASCAR and visiting casinos. He was preceded indeath by 3 brothers, Marvin, Edward and Vernon Wiltse.

Paul L. Witek, age 76, died October 6, 2010. He was born February 18, 1934, in Chicago, to Bruno and Agnes (Jados) Witek. Mr. Witek had worked as a machinist at Howmet Corp. for 25 years, retiring in 1996. He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

Mary E. Witte, age 74, died September 20, 2010. She was born May 3, 1936, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Monroe and Ruth (Palmer) Long. After attending Hackley School of Nursing, she worked for a short while as a nurse and then was a homemaker all her life.

Michael A. Wonn, age 63, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010. Mr. Wonn was born on April 16, 1947, in Crystal Lake, IL, to Edward and Helen (McGuiness) Wonn. He was a graduate of Whitehall High School and owned & operated his own lawn service. Mike proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of Don Rea VFW Post #8846 in North Muskegon and Algot Johnson American Legion Post #69 in Whitehall.

Mrs. Edna L. Wright (widow of Thomas) of Montague 

Mrs. Wright, age 96, died January 7, 2010, at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes, in Grand Rapids, with loving family at her side. She was born June 4, 1913, in Moran, to Burton and Pearl (Alger) Landrey. On November 26, 1936, in Muskegon, she married Thomas M. Wright Jr., who preceded her in death on November 15,1998. Mrs. Wright had been a devoted wife and homemaker and was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Whitehall. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family of Edna wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff and resident caregivers in Assisted Living at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes, and also to Faith Hospice of Holland Home for all their care and support.

Mrs. Mary Zachariason of Whitehall (widow of Herman)

Mrs. Zachariason, age 89, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at her home. She was born October 31, 1919, in Austria, to Stephen and Josephine (Wolfel) Szilagyi. On July 26, 1947 she married Herman Zachariason, who preceded her in death in 2001. Mary worked at Plumbs for a number of years, retiring in 1981. When she wasn't outdoors working in her garden or taking care of the yard she kept herself busy reading (mysteries) or doing jigsaw puzzles.  Recently she loved taking leisurely sightseeing trips along the bike trail.  Mary loved and was comforted by her 2 "grand dogs" Lucy and Sadie.  She was preceded in death by 2 children, Mary Jo and Michael, and 2 brothers, Alfred and Steve.

Mr. Byron E. Zike of Montague

Mr. Byron Zike, age 89, died September 24, 2009. He was born July 8, 1920, in Cedar Springs, to Charles and Vista (Anderson) Zike and had lived in the White Lake area since 1955. He had attended Marion College in Marion, IL, and on April 14, 1942, in Akron, OH, he married the former E. Jane Plew. She preceded him in death in 2002. He worked as a sales associate in the area for many years. Mr. Zike served in the US Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Mrs. Annabelle M. Zinser of Amelia Island, FL 

Annabelle Myers Zinser, age 84, died December 3, 2009, in Florida. She was born July 11, 1925, in Montague, to Carl and Bessie (Stevenson) Myers. Annabelle was a 1942 graduate of Montague High School and later earned a Master of Education degree. On November 27, 1947, she married Francis P. Zinser, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Zinser worked as an educator in the Warren-Fitgerald (MI) School System for 25 years, retiring in 1996. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Catherine Ann Zinzer and Mary Ellen Blankenhorn.

FAMILY: 1 son, Robert Zinser of Venice, CA; 4 grandsons, Byron Blankenhorn of CO, Eric Blankenhorn of OH, George Blankenhorn of OH and Robert Blankenhorn of VA; 2 great-grandchildren, Hunter Blankenhorn and Jacob Blankenhorn; 1 sister, Carol Levering of FL; 1 brother, James Myers of GA.

FUNERAL LITURGY: Saturday, December 12, 2009, at 11 AM, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 150 Church St., Lakewood Club, with the Rev. Fr. Donn P. Tufts presiding. Interment will be made in Oakgrove Cemetery, Montague.
